T9 MERMAID RUN EAST BAY
5k, 10k, Half Marathon, Sirena18 mile, 18 mile RELAY (2 person)
Saturday, May 2nd 2020
Hello Mermaid Athletes,
We hope everyone is staying healthy and safe during these challenging times with the Coronavirus pandemic. It is with heavy hearts that we are cancelling the T9 Mermaid Run East Bay, however we’ve done our best (outlined below) to come up with as many possibilities for a deferral, future race credit or the option of participating in our Virtual Run to celebrate our strength, resilience and Mermazing community of athletes on Saturday, June 20th.
Along with these options, we’ve included a link to your Race Roster Athlete Dashboard where you can quickly “Edit” your registration and choose the option that works best for you. This is the quickest way for you to choose and for us to track everyone’s request. As always, if you want to reach out to us directly feel free to email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please read through our FAQ below for answers to many of your questions.
Participant Options (Please choose by May 25th):
All registered participants can choose from the following options:
1. Request a future deferral to the 2021, 2022 or 2023 T9 Mermaid Run East Bay. The deferral is good for the SAME distance that you registered for in 2020
2. Request a future race credit good for the dollar amount of your entry fee that you can apply to a future Mermaid Series event. The race credit can be applied to any future 2020, 2021, 2022 or 2023 event.
3. Switch your entry to the Mermazing Virtual Run and you'll receive an awesome race shirt, medal, necklace & bib number. Then run with the Mermaid Community on June 20th! If you paid more than the Virtual Run at East Bay you will also get a future credit per the following:
- 5K & Virtual Runners (same price) = no future credit
- 10K = $5 credit
- Half = $15 credit
- Sirena18 = $25 credit
- Dash = no credit, but we will send the medal & necklace for the upcoming Mermazing Virtual Run. Note: T-shirts are not included in the Dash entry
What is the T9 Mermazing Virtual Run:
Due to the Coronavirus, we’ve had to cancel both the T9 Mermaid Run East Bay and the T9 Mermaid Run Spokane. The virtual run is an opportunity for the entire Mermaid community to come together to share, inspire, laugh and motivate each other. Signing up for the virtual run WILL give you something to look forward to, it WILL be fun, you WILL get awesome swag and best of all, it WILL give us a chance to come TOGETHER as a virtual community! If you switch to the virtual run you'll receive a stylish race shirt, finisher medal & necklace and a personalized bib number.
Hang in there, stay healthy and we hope to see you soon!

How do I go about receiving my future race credit or deferral?
We will email you the details with your future race credit or deferral code within a week of you choosing your option.
If I choose to switch to the T9 Mermazing Virtual Run, how do I know I’m entered?
You will receive an email confirmation once we’ve switched you to the T9 Mermazing Virtual Run. If you registered for the 10K, Half or Sirena18 we will send you an additional email with the additional future race credit code.
What if I was already registered for the virtual run for East Bay?
Since we are cancelling the physical event we are also cancelling the virtual option for East Bay. We hope you will transfer to the T9 Mermazing Virtual Run, however you can still request a deferral or future race credit if you prefer.
How does this impact the POD participants?
Participants who are completing the POD Challenge will now need to participate in the T9 Mermazing Virtual Run. As a POD member, you would have been signed up for both East Bay and Spokane, you will need to change one of the entries to the T9 Mermazing Virtual Run and then either choose to defer or receive a future race credit for other event. If you were completing the in-person POD Challenge you will keep your in-person status even though you are doing the T9 Mermazing Run virtually.
I registered my daughter or son for the Dash, what do I do with their entry?
You can request a deferral or future race credit for their entry OR you can switch them to the T9 Mermazing Virtual Run and we’ll mail them the medal, necklace and bib number.
What if I purchased a youth shirt with the Dash registration?
If you were registered for the dash and ordered a shirt with your registration, you will have the option to move your registration and shirt order to the T9 Mermazing Virtual Run or you can request a deferral or future race credit.
What if I am unable to run on June 20th, but I want to support the Mermaid community and be a part of the T9 Mermazing Run?
No worries, if you can’t run on the 20th you’ll have 7 days to complete your virtual run.
If I do not want to do the virtual or receive a deferral / future race credit, can I just get a refund?
Unfortunately we are unable to give refunds per our cancellation and refund policy. To preserve the dollar amount of your entry fee we are only able to offer it as a deferral or future race credit. Many of the expenses leading up to the race have already been paid for, thus making it impossible to give refunds. Our policy for event cancellation, refunds, and future race credits is stated on the event waiver as well as posted on our website. [Participant Waiver]

Packet pickup - Registration
What do I need to bring to packet pick-up/registration?
Bring your PHOTO IDENTIFICATION (ID) or a copy of your ID in order to receive your packet. A valid driver’s license or a valid passport is best. Minors are not required to show a photo ID.
Can I pick up my friend’s packet for them?
Yes! Bring a copy of their photo ID and we’ll give you their packet. You may have a photo of your friend's photo ID on your phone.
Are we required to pick up our packets before race day?
No, but we strongly recommend that you do. This allows you to get ready for your race instead of waiting in a line on race day.
What time should we be there on race day?
Check-in opens at 6:00 a.m. We recommend you get there 60 minutes before your start time to park and get ready for the race. If you didn’t get your packet before race day, you may want to give yourself even more time.
How soon does one need to register for the event?
The earlier, the better. Mermaid events have sold out in the past. To guarantee your entry we recommend you sign up early. Plus, the prices increase as the event date gets closer.
If the event closes, will there be a waiting list?
If I cannot race, can I give someone else my race number?
No. Race entries are non-transferable.
How do I know you received my entry?
You should have received an email confirmation from the registration system. If you can’t find it, you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will verify your participation from our registration list.
Can I get a refund?
Unfortunately, there are no refunds. However, we do have an awesome cancelation policy. Email us at email@example.com at least 10 days prior to the event and we’ll give you a credit toward a future race. The credit amount is your entry fee minus a $10 processing fee.
How many miles is 5K? 10K? Half Marathon?
The 5K is 3.1 miles, the 10K is 6.2 miles, and the Half Marathon is 13.1 miles.
What is the Sirena 18 mile 2 person relay?
The Sirena 18 mile 2 person relay is our newest sub-event. We give the option for teams of two a chance to run the Sirena 18 mile course by
splitting up the distance into two parts. The first leg is 7.5 miles and the second leg is 10.5 miles. Both team members must be registered to run/walk.
Will you provide a shuttle to/from the transition point for Relay teammates?
We will provide a shuttle to/from the relay exchange point. The team member who runs the second leg will be shuttled out to the exchange point.
The first team member will start with the Sirena 18 mile runners and will be shuttled back to the start line after she meets up with her team member at the exchange area.
I want to run back with my teammate who is running the second leg of the relay. May I do so and not get on the shuttle?
Yes, you may run back with your teammate to the finish line. We ask that you make sure you let the volunteer at the exchange tent know so that
we are not looking for you to shuttle back to the start line.
Is the course hilly?
The course is virtually flat, but most of the course is a dirt path, some of which is uneven and narrow.
Is there is a time limit?
We do not have a time limit. We want to see all Mermaids cross the finish line.
Do you have aid stations? What kind of hydration/food is on the race course?
Yes, we have plenty of aid stations. Water, Ultima Replenisher electrolyte drink, and Luna bars are available at aid stations along the course.
Can I run with a baby stroller?
Yes, you can run with a baby stroller, but the course is on a mostly dirt path, so the ride will be bumpy. If you choose to use a baby stroller, please start towards the back of the pack at the start line.
Do you have prizes for winners?
Yes! We will have an awards ceremony at the expo. Awards are given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall female winners for each distance and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place female winners of each age group. You must be present at the awards ceremony to pick up your award. Awards will not be mailed out. We do not offer awards for male categories.
What are the Age Groups?
Mermaid Age Groups are currently 10 and under, 11-14 15-17, 18-19, 20-24, 25-29, etc. Age groups from age 20 and over are separated by 5 year increments.
I belong to a club or organization. Do you offer group discounts?
Yes! Have your club president or representative email us at to get the discount code.
How many do I need in my group to be eligible for a group discount code?
6 or more.
Are men allowed to compete in a Mermaid event?
Yes! Men can register and participate. However, since Mermaid is primarily a women’s event (about 97-98% of participants are women), men are not eligible for awards.
Do I have to wear my paper, race number?
Yes, you are required to run with your bib number. The bib is used for timing, identification, and race photos.
I heard this event uses Chip Timing. What is Chip Timing?
Chip timing allows us to record your time using a computer and gives the most accurate results. Your timing chip is attached to your bib.
